Greetings from the FormSprint helpdesk!

Summer is drawing to a close, the school year is beginning anew, crops are being harvested. This is a time we think about transitions and new beginnings.

Here at ICS, we bid farewell and best wishes to Robert Keeter who retires effective August 31. Robert has been a valuable member of the ICS family for over 20 years. Robert's contributions to ICS have been many and his gentle, quiet sense of humor and gentlemanly ways will be missed by our staff as well as his customers. Our very best wishes go to Robert as he embarks on new adventures!

We know that many of our customers have been thinking about transitions as IBM sunsets support of V5R4. If you are planning to upgrade to the latest versions of the operating system, be assured that even the early versions of FormSprint will run just fine on the latest versions of the OS. However, we are always working to improve and add new features to our software. The newest version is available for download. Just give us a call for the URL, username, and password.

ICS has recently been working on bringing the power and convenience of mobile devices together with the rock solid reliability of the IBM i and FormSprint.

ICS is releasing Signature Manager, a point of sale signature capture application running on the AppleŽ iPadŽ tablet.

The application uses the FormSprint Archive Database system resident on the IBM i to retrieve and display the document requiring signature. In the most fundamental use, after displaying the document, the tablet provides a field for signing directly on the tablet, displays the signed document, and then files it back in the IBM i in a separate archiver database for signed documents. The signed document can also be printed, created as a pdf, or emailed.

But there are many more options. These include automatic date stamping, display of terms or conditions that the signer needs to accept, text entries or comments to be added to the form, selection of notes or phrases from a listing, and check boxes permitting the signer to check off entries on the form.

All of these functions are controlled by entries made in the spool mapper section of the form design. With only a few entries, any existing form can be set up for archiving and signature capture. The resulting system looks like a custom application on the iPad tablet, but is easily designed and implemented by the FormSprint user.
If you are interested in setting up a demonstration of the Signature Manager or have any questions, please call us at 860-657-3339.

Sincerely,

Herr House
My photos this month are from a recent trip to Lancaster, Pennsylvania where our daughter was completing her medical residency.

I have always thought that making connections to our past can help give us stability in a changing world. On this particular visit, we learned that my husband's family were direct descendants of Hans Herr one of the earliest settlers of Lancaster County and the first Mennonite Bishop in America.

If you find yourself in Lancaster County, the Hans Herr House Museum is a wonderful place to visit.
